Shout Factory produces great movies in 4K and Blu-Ray discs this one is fantastic I like the fact that Shout Factory also includes the reversible cover sleeves on all their movies to provide the collector with the original photo cover. Thank You Shout factory and the delivery was very fast I was very pleased with this purchase.

John Badham got it right!

This double Blu Ray from Shout Factory features the original theatrical full color version of Dracula (1979) on Disc 2 and director John Badham's preferred semi-monochrome or "washed out/desaturated" version on Disc 1. The director had a desire back in 1991 to drain most of the color from the movie for the Laserdisc release, feeling it would create a darker feel and noir-ish tone throughout the movie because he originally wanted to film the movie in black-and-white in 1979 but was talked out of it by studio executives who felt an audience in 1979 would be adverse to watching a black-and-white movie. All DVD and Blu Ray releases up until this all-new Shout Factory release featured this washed out version. Well, you know what? I actually prefer the washed out version! When I watched the full color original theatrical version (Disc 2) the other night, something didn't feel right. I felt like I was watching a totally different movie and I mean that in a bad way. There's nothing wrong with a full color Dracula movie. It has worked in the past. Think Horror of Dracula (1958), Dan Curtis' Dracula (1973), Count Dracula (1977) and Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), to name a few. But I think this 1979 version of Dracula benefits tremendously from the toned down colors. It adds an extra eerie dark and creepy feel to the movie. One thing I noticed though is that the washed out version on Disc 1 has slightly more color than it has had on past DVD and Blu Ray releases. This is not a bad thing. Perhaps (maybe) a middle ground was struck - that is, a little more color was added to the washed out version while still retaining most of the washed out look. I don't know. I can't verify this. Just a theory of mine.
Another thing I want to mention. For the last four decades a lot of people have been complaining about the sort of "vampire wedding" scene with Kate Nelligan and Frank Langella where John Williams' score comes to the forefront and there are red "psychedelic" lights that light up the scene and vampire bats flying toward the screen. Personally, I think this is a tremendously awesome scene that is one of the highlights of the whole film. It really accentuates the moment and what is being seen on the screen. I don't find it intrusive. Besides, it's not a very long segment, anyway. A lot of people like this scene and I'm one of them. Another example of John Badham getting it right!
Some people reviewing this set are complaining about the full color version having stretches of time where the picture quality goes down and becomes fuzzy. I noticed that as well. I don't know what happened during the transfer process, but it's possible that perhaps some scenes had to be replaced with footage from lesser sources due to film damage? I don't know. Hmmm.... But it doesn't matter to me personally because I'll always gravitate toward the washed out version.
This two Blu Ray set comes with lots of special features/interviews, etc. I highly recommend it!

Just As You Remember It

Director John Badham's Original Cut of His 1979 Version Of The Classic Tale Of Dracula. For whatever reasons at The Time Director John Badham Decided To give a fresh New look To his movie The idea was To give The movie a complete more Gothic look. The process would involve bleeding The original colour from The movie giving The film The more Gothic black and white look required. while The movie was still The same as filmed in 1979 its fair To say The New look To Dracula did gather mixed reviews upon its release. Having owned a copy of The version myself while I always loved This movie personally I was not Taken To Dracula's New look. This New Blu-ray Two Disc Special Edition of The 1979 Dracula allows you once again To view Dracula in its original 1979 release version. with The original colour fully restored back To The movie This is now The version you would have originally seen upon its release in cinema's. Disc 1 still allows you To view The more Gothic look version while Disc Two offers The original version. Both versions offer full Audio commentary's for The film with Director John Badham's commentary for The film on Disc 1. However John Badham does introduce The original colour 1979 version. An Excellent version of The Novel at The Time Frank Langella is The count supported by Donald Pleasence, Kate Nelligan, and Laurence Olivier. Other extras on The Disc's include a behind The scenes making on The movie plus The ever popular stills Gallery. This is The version you all remember and perhaps if I could leave The last word To John Badham on his introduction To The movie you can now choose which version of The movie you do like.

The only copy with multiple versions.

This is a hard to find copy with multiple versions of the movie on it. Each version has different lighting, and one was aired on British television.
