For me,being a huge Bronson fan, this is an amazing release to add to my Charlie Blu Ray collection so a massive thank you to KL.Great performance from the man himself.True movie legend.Superb screen presence and deliverer of lines.
Picture quality is excellent and the disc contains a lengthy interview with the Director of the movie. He explains how they got Charlie to do the picture and what he was like during the shoot. As Bronson sadly rarely gave interviews this is a real bonus for fans.(Incidentally, there is a fantastic and lengthy interview circa 1972 on YouTube where Charlie is interviewed on The Dick Cavett Show).A real gem for fans.
Bronson was absolutely massive here in England UK and I just wish he’d made a Cop or heist movie with giants Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds during their absolute prime period in the early to mid 70s.

For those Charles Bronson fans who have not seen this film, it is a must. While Alain Delon was the real star of the film, Bronson steals the film from Delon. There is a real good audio commentary, much better than the Rider of The Rain one. and an interview with the director of the film back in 2004, in French. But unlike that disc, there is no French derision, the only way one can see that version on their disc is to look at the interview with Jean Herman, the director. He does contradict the commentators on the film regarding the casting of Bronson, but he also gives very interesting insight about directing, and the difficulties of it. There is also very investing thought about Bronson being in Europe at the time, and why most of his films in that period are far more interesting that his at least post death Wish days. Sad that he did not work with Herman, or Rene Clement (Rider On the Rain), though on the first it is explained why. Highly recommended. Would have liked to see an interview with Delon on working with Bronson, as they would make one other film together.

Charles Bronson à la française (Quatrieme Partie)

Of Charles Bronson’s four French films, “Farewell, Friend” is the weakest. It’s a heist movie in which Bronson and Alain Delon are attempting to break into a vault in the basement of an office building over the Christmas holiday. Lots of twists and turns, and some strange, almost surrealistic sequences. The vault-breaking scenes get a little tedious, but things pick up once they manage to open the safe.
The Blu-ray from KL Studio Classics includes audio commentary from three film historians and an interview with director Jean Herman. So, overall it’s a nice package.
But the movie is really only interesting as a novelty. One of Charles Bronson’s more unusual films.
My high school French teacher had a good phrase for a movie like this: “Comme ci, comme ça.” Literally “like this, like that,” but can be more loosely translated as “meh.”
