Unique points on display on female nature and relationships.

This are the experiences of a couple of social outcasts, Hikari Tsutsui a nerdy teenager and his girlfriend Iroha Igarashi, hated for her reputation of being promiscuous (false) and a bad student (true). None of these traits are anybody’s business, but conservative peoples (like most Japanese) can never accept other people’s rights and can get plain evil and shown in these series, Real Girl (RG).
In fact, Hikari is actually one of the conservative crowd himself, facing the serious problem of being rejected and even hated for his hobbies. Yet, he is more concerned hating Iroha (at first) for her sexual reputation, failing to see that what she suffers is the same as him, people being nasty at him due to their perceptions; perceptions that they regard as facts without need for evidence, but even if were true is none of their business.
Hikari is your typical anime character perennially terrified at sex; his dear pal Yuto is never terrified because he simply avoids the issue at 100%, an absolute wimp who excels at lashing at whom he can, (his single friend Hiraki) just once, never mind.
RG has an edge for its feminine perspective, more mature than shows aimed at men, especially boy’s. RG is actually a shojo anime (aimed at girls), yet it excelled in crushing the favorite all-time-all-places male fantasy: the beautiful woman's utterly reckless and free sexual life.
However incredibly stupid and improbable* is the fantasy above no one apparently though about making a show exposing it. RG is the first series I have ever found (from thousands lifetime, literally) that crushes this fantasy. Iroha will get daring with Hikari, but ONLY AFTER he’s proven his worth to her by standing for her when she receives aggression.
Before meeting Hikari Iroha was only friendly to guys. That was all she needed to get her reputation (quite normal in backwards societies, I come from one myself). And she could be truly only friendly to men as she saw them as vane and dumb, for being after her only for her looks. Nonetheless, RG does show the risk of merely attempting to be friendly to many men. Again, RG playing the total opposite of the favorite male fantasy.
As if all the above wasn’t enough the character and relationship development keep getting better. For all her sexy and daring aura, Iroha can turn out to be jealous and insecure. My favorite scene is when she yells at Hiraki, “Why are you apologizing!!?”
As a product meant for a massive market, it cannot relate to actual pretty women (an utter minority everywhere) but to regular ones, who cannot think and feel the same. All other shojo anime I’ve watched have the main male characters are strong, handsome, intelligent…successful for the most or total part. RG is the only girl anime where main character, a male one, is mostly the opposite of the above, yet gets a beautiful girlfriend, a girl who doesn’t want to be appreciated for her beauty but for her nature, which is a perspective that only average-looking women can have. Pretty women actually like to be appreciated for her bodies or beauty at times, maybe often.
Why? A short answer is that in this world of averages you will love any part of yourself that make you stand out. For example, the royal families around the world and history are always the highest class. Why would anybody be proud to be a princess, duke or whatever when it was only passed down? Aristocratic titles are not earned or deserved. A better question is why would anybody (or crowds) admire aristocrats?
Now, going back to RG, the series has final master chapters with Iroha’s brother bringing trouble to Hiraki, a brother with the ever-present incestuous intentions in anime. It must be said that similar incestuous intentions from many fathers happen here in America, staring by the current president. You better forget the swamp (cannot be drained by crocodiles) and enjoy these series.
* Redundant acknowledgement for predictable comments, improbable is not impossible.

It’s a very good love story I really recommend it and it’s sad at the end. It is one of my favorite anime and there is supposed to be a third season coming out.
