Natalia Makarova's acclaimed production of this 19th-century classic ballet brings an exotic world of temple dancers and noble warriors to life. Featuring opulent sets by Pier Luigi Samaritani and beautiful costumes by Yolanda Sonnabend, it stars Marianela Nunez as the Bayadère (temple dancer) Nikiya, Vadim Muntagirov as Solor, and Natalia Osipova as Gamzatti, whose alluring presence challenges Solor's love for Nikiya. La Bayadere (The Temple Dancer) was originally staged in four acts and seven tableaux by French choreographer Marius Petipa to the music of Ludwig Minkus. The ballet was staged especially for the benefit performance of the Russian Prima ballerina Ekaterina Vazem, who created the principal role of Nikiya. From the first performance the ballet was universally hailed by contemporary critics as one of the choreographer Petipa's supreme masterpieces, particularly the scene from the ballet known as The Kingdom of the Shades, which became one of the most celebrated pieces in all of classical ballet.

マリアネラ・ヌニェスのニキヤ＆ナタリヤ・オシポワのガムザッティの組み合わせは何年も前から期待していたので、ブルーレイ化を楽しみにしていました。そこにワディム・ムンタギロフのソロル。ハイスペックの競演は見ごたえ充分で最後まで夢から覚めずにいられます。これはロイヤル・バレエの歴史に残る一枚ではないでしょうか。

ヌニェスは感情をぐっと内面に秘めた（マカロワ版ニキヤの特徴でしょうか？）神秘的な巫女らしいニキヤを演じています。品格高くすべての動きに魂がこもっていてとても美しい。一方オシポワは女性的感情を全面に押し出し高慢で嫉妬深いが女らしいもろさもある、人間味あふれるガムザッティを好演。キレのあるテクニックはさすが。パ・グ・ダシオンの素晴らしかったこと！イタリアン・フェッテもグラン・フェッテも余裕たっぷりでこちらもため息ものです。二人の高度な技術を持つトップ・プリンシバルが静と動、神秘性と人間性の対比を見事に演じ分けている点、素晴らしいの一言です。個人的にはボリショイのザハロワ＆アレクサンドロワのラ・バヤデールに匹敵する見ごたえを感じました。

ムンタギロフは二人の美女の求愛に悩める戦士ソロルを好演。（個人的にはもう少し勇ましくても…と思うのですが、以前アコスタが演じたソロルも悩みまくっていたのでキャラ設定かと思われます）この舞台では美しいアラベスクや見事な跳躍力だけでなく柔軟性の高さに目を見張ります。そして脇役も実力者揃い。特に大僧正の演技力が素晴らしいです。また、高田茜さんを始めとする日本人ダンサーもソロで活躍、正確な技術と優雅な踊りで舞台に花を添えています。影の王国が見せ場のコールドバレエもよく揃っていて美しい。実に眼福。

マカロワ版のラ・バヤデールは「影の王国」後もストーリー展開がドラマティックに描かれており、始めて観る方もテンポよくわかりやすく物語を楽しむことが出来ます。好みもあると思いますが、原版と甲乙つけがたい魅力があると思います。

This version of La Bayadere is the version I'll watch over and over again. Marianela Nunez and Vadim Muntagirov are again the principal dancers along with Natalia Osipova so the dancing is first class. The quality of the picture is the usual high standard of Opus Arte DVD BluRay releases. What set this version apart was the videography. Directed for the screen by Ross MacGibbon, who also directed the Royal Opera House DVDs of 2018 releases of Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. The best photography of the Entrance of the Shades of any DVD of La Bayadere. Set the camera centre stage and never moved it. Gorgeous and kudos too to the dancers of the Royal Ballet! As with his other videos, I also enjoy how many ensemble scenes encapsulate most of the stage. Not ideal for those who watch on their tablets or phones but wonderful for watching on big screen TVs, etc. Can't wait until he produces a new release of Romeo and Juliet.

N. Makarova en fonction des informations partielles dont elle disposait sur la chorégraphie d'origine à accompli un remarquable travail de reconstitution avec l'aide du compositeur et chef d'orchestre de Covent Garden pour la partie musicale, tout en nous donnant une version très personnelle mais respectueuse. Quand à l'interprétation elle est parfaite. Une réussite.

Grande spettacolo, eccellenti riprese. E' la versione della Makarova, che a differenza di quella di Nureyev, tra l'altro include l'ultimo atto presente nell'originale, con la collera degli dei (e anche un magnifico brano musicale). Qualche irritante difetto digitale, ma non ho tolto stelle perché avrei potuto restituirlo, ma non ne ho avuto voglia, così non posso dire se è un difetto sistematico o un caso isolato del pezzo che è capitato a me.
