**IGNORE** the hate reviews. Glad I didn't listen. No issues with the quality

I have absolutely no idea why everyone is complaining about the quality of this film. Yes there were a couple scenes of 'greenery' but who the heck cares. Its a vintage film. I was expecting such trash after the reviews but you have nothing to worry about. Want to have something to really complain about and pay double the price of this one, for what I would state as unwatchable? then go grab The Curse of Bigfoot by Alpha Video. Come back and tell me you still feel the same way about the quality of this one. Complaints on this one, are from people who are spoiled to 4K Bluray quality and expect that of remastered old gems. Get over it people. Quit with the unjustified hate reviews.

Everyone is complaining about the mould

Okay, I bought this before reading all the complaints about the "picture quality" - I even tried to cancel my order, but it was too late. So when it finally arrived, I was puking maggots to see how terrible the picture quality would be,
Yeah, sure - it has green splotches all over the place. But it's a film that has now been saved from extinction! It looks great: colours are bright, tones are deep. I feel like I'm on 42nd Street, watching a pretty decent copy of it. So okay - it's not a Criterion release - but it's an awesome print non the less.
Seriously, people - we need to stop acting like spoilt kids. This is a fun release that makes you nostalgic for the old days when (I at least) ate these kind of films up. Would love a filter on all grind house releases with a ton of green splotches :-D It's kinda cool.

Apprehensive films does it again! Bringing this gut buster to dvd after all these years! I remember watching this old gem on vhs tape back in the late 80's. This film has people with snakes, eels, maggots, reptiles, etc. oozing out of their mouths. They vomit these yummy snacks up when they are confronted by the She Devil. This is a no brainer if you want pure geek value!! I do not believe there are special effects in this film this is the real deal! So if you are eager to watch horror with a slate of Fear Factor stunts this stinker is for you!!

HIDEOUS video and audio quality. DECEPTIVE advertising, BUYER BEWARE.

From the website description, I was expecting a pristine print of this weird film on blu-ray. The old vhs tape from Chop 'Em Up Video (a.k.a. Video City Productions) is better than this garbage. Seek out the VideoAsia dvd on a double bill with THE RAPIST. Their print is better. I also have the Japanese vhs, and the quality is flawless. Massacre Video's uncut print of THE DEVIL is riddled with specks and blotches, apparently from a moldy master. I turned off the blu-ray when the screen started to wiggle and warble. Be forewarned that you are not getting a clean transfer of the original film. What a disappointment.
Recently, I obtained the Japanese laserdsic of DEVIL, and the quality is amazing. The LD was released 30 years ago and puts the Massacre Video version to shame. Again, this product deserves ZERO stars for the quality and deceptive advertising. I don't like being lied to. Massacre Video should have been upfront and said their source print is completely destroyed by mold and there are green splotches and specks on every frame. Be forewarned. I wouldn't have been looking to "upgrade" and spend my hard-earned money had I known about the lousy quality.

Fun, gross Chinese horror but horrible transfer

This is one of the weirdest and most disgusting horror movies I've ever seen. It goes from campy and lighthearted to dark and mean-spirited with wild abandon, showing no interest in maintaining any sort of consistent mood or style. The story is the flimsiest excuse to string together a series of stomach-churning set-pieces that push the gross-out factor to unprecedented lengths.
A woman has her face bashed in with a rock while waiting for a train. Her assailant steals her purse and leaves her for dead. This sets into motion a curse that causes its victims to barf up worms, centipedes, maggots, eels, blood, pus and gallons of black slime. Pretty darn gross. The story really goes nowhere and there are long, boring periods between the puking scenes, but there is some decent atmosphere and the whole thing is obviously intended to be nothing more than a gory freak show.
For decades this was a near impossible to find movie, available only as a barely released VHS from Video City or as a bootleg. Apprehensive Films' recent special edition DVD-R unfortunately appears to have been transferred from said VHS release, as it is cropped (severely) and the darker scenes are almost unwatchably murky. A far better version exists somewhere, as there are clips available on Youtube that are widescreen and have far better picture quality.
Regardless, don't expect the Criterion treatment for this one any time soon. A fuzzy, cropped copy of this movie will do a serviceable job getting across the insect zoo regurgitation scenes. Just lay off the lo mein while watching it.
